As part of Data Summit Luxembourg 2025, the Publications Office of the European Union will host a training session titled “From Data to Metadata: Ensuring Open Data Excellence Across Borders.” This workshop will focus on the critical role of data and metadata quality in advancing open data initiatives across Europe.
Led by Dr. Simon Steuer, Deputy Head of Unit at the European Commission, the session will offer practical insights into how high-quality metadata supports semantic interoperability, data discoverability, and responsible AI. Drawing from real-world collaborations with national administrations and international organisations, participants will explore proven methodologies and tools for improving data sharing and reuse.

Dr. Simon Steuer leads the “Open Data Services” sector within the Publications Office of the EU and manages the European Data Portal. His academic research focuses on the reuse of public sector data under the European data strategy, bridging policy, infrastructure, and innovation.
