Synthetic Data for Official Statistics: Lessons from Luxembourg’s Census

Using Luxembourg’s 2021 Census as a foundation, the team successfully generated high-quality synthetic data that mirrors real-world statistical relationships — without revealing personal information. This innovative approach not only meets EU standards for anonymisation but also opens new doors for flexible, privacy-preserving data sharing in research and policy.

🎤 About the Speaker

Claude Lamboray holds a PhD in Applied Science from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and has a strong academic background in Mathematics and Statistics. Over the past 15+ years, he has built extensive experience in the field of official statistics, working on a wide range of projects and in various roles at STATEC and the European Commission. Currently, Claude leads the Methods and Quality team within STATEC’s datalab, where he plays a key role in driving modernisation initiatives and enhancing statistical practices.
