  • Runs in parallel with the plenary sessions

  • Capacity: Limited to 30 participants per session

  • Registration: Pre-registration is required via the Data Summit Luxembourg’s registration form

  1. Understanding GDPR – A Hands-On Introduction to European Data Protection

Organised by: Luxembourg National Data Service

  • When: 10:10-11:00

  • Description: In this workshop you will get an overview of the fundamentals of European data protection legal framework, including personal data, processing and purpose, roles, and lawfulness of the processing. Through games and activities, this workshop will give an overview to support you in gaining insights into GDPR principles, practical examples, and avoid common pitfalls.

  • Target audience: Anyone in the data community

  • Minimum required: None. It is a beginners friendly training

  • Objectives: This workshop offers a practical introduction to data protection, equipping participants with the foundational knowledge needed to understand and navigate the key principles of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

 


  1. Data Stewardship Foundations – Building Responsible Data Practices

Organised by: Luxembourg National Data Service

  • When: 11:10-12:00

  • Description: Data is a vital resource for organizations, supporting informed business decisions and driving modernization efforts. Data reuse involves utilizing existing data to generate new insights or answer new questions, rather than collecting fresh data. This practice is becoming increasingly important in today’s data-driven world, where the volume of data is growing at an unprecedented rate.
    Data stewardship facilitates systematic, sustainable, and responsible access to and reuse of data for the public good.
    This training is designed to provide a solid foundation in data stewardship. Participants will explore the essential principles, roles, and responsibilities of data stewards, along with the key skills and best practices needed to manage data effectively. Additionally, the training provides a foundational understanding of data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures, emphasizing their importance across all organizations.

  • Target audience: Everyone

  • Minimum requirements: None. This is a beginner-friendly training.

  • Objectives:

    • Introduce the foundational concepts and the importance of data

    • Provide an understanding of data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures

    • Develop key skills required for effective data stewardship, including roles and responsibilities

    • Demonstrate practical applications of data stewardship

 


  1. Data and AI Strategy Essentials – A Practical Workshop for Decision-Makers.

Organised by:  Centre national de formation professionnelle continue (CNFPC)

  • When: 14:00-14:50

  • Description: In a context where data and artificial intelligence are omnipresent, decision-makers face two pitfalls: an overwhelming abundance of solutions and the difficulty of turning data into reliable, ethical decisions. This interactive workshop, led by CNFPC, offers a hands-on introduction to building an effective data strategy, step by step. With a strong focus on governance, return on investment, and ethics, the session equips participants with practical tools that can be directly applied within their organisations. Attendees will leave with a ready-to-use canvas to guide their data projects and support strategic decision-making in a responsible and impactful way.

  • Target audience: 

    • Public and private decision-makers (CEOs, innovation managers, data/IT/business managers).

    • Managers working on data projects.

    • Anyone responsible for turning data into strategic advantages.

  • When: 16:00-16:50

  • Description: This workshop, organised by the Publications Office of the European Union, will highlight the critical role of data and metadata quality in advancing open data initiatives. Data experts will present their insights, methodologies, and best practices for achieving high-quality open data. Drawing from their collaborations with national experts in public administrations and leading international organisations, they will offer valuable perspectives on promoting open data at a global scale. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in dynamic discussions addressing the challenges and opportunities of maintaining data and metadata quality across borders and sectors.

  • Target audience :  Data experts, data scientists, IT professionals, policymakers

  • Minimum requirements : None.

  • Objectives:

    • Understand the importance of data and metadata quality for open data sharing.

    • Learn best practices and tools for ensuring high-quality open data.
